Heather Holmes

Hi and welcome to Kayley’s Chronicles!

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and share a little more information about how and why Kayley’s Chronicles came into being.

I grew up in South Africa with my mom and dad, my older sister and my younger brother. I left South Africa in 1999 to explore a little of Europe and moved to London where I lived for 11 years. In London, I played hockey (a love I took with me from South Africa) and toured to the Netherlands in 2008 where I met my husband, Jeroen. I moved permanently to the Netherlands in 2009 and Jeroen and I married in 2012. Though far from home, Africa will always have my heart.

Jeroen and I were blessed with our daughter, Kayley in 2013. And although I have tried for many years after Kayley’s birth to have another child, I have not been so lucky.

I wrote this book (and the one’s still to come in the Kayley’s Chronicles series) for so many reasons: I wanted to honour the closeness of our relationship, remember some of our lovely adventures together and I figured if I can’t have another child of my own, I could try to impact and maybe even help other children with some of the stories and experiences that we’ve had along the way.

Kayley and I love to laugh, we love to dance and we’re good at being wonderfully enthusiastic about everyday things that we make an adventure. Stories from the heart I always say, Kayley’s stories are for everyone. I hope you’ll love them as much as I have loved sharing them with Kayley and as much as I have loved writing them. I hope somewhere, somehow our stories will remind people to be kind and caring towards each other, help children in all walks of life to make their dreams come true, believe in themselves and never give up but all with a smile and a bit of fun along the way.

The Kayley’s Chronicles series is written in rhyming verse and is generally suited for ages 2-8. We hope you have fun reading our adventures!
